  There are many different ways to apply Hoaradam Gouache - they are very versatile. Although they can be heavily diluted, gouache is mainly intended for creating opaque layers. Which means using them in their pure form straight from the tube. Strong opacity in this case does not mean a thick and convex layer, on the contrary, the color is flat without strongly visible brush marks. Painting with watercolors involves a gradual transition from light to dark (white paper is light), while in gouache painting it can be done in any order. In watercolour painting it is difficult to add lighter elements at a later stage (unless using a masking fluid) whereas in gouache painting you can add light at any time by adding lighter colours. Students very quickly realise that gouache is slightly lighter when dry and use the appropriate proportions when mixing the paints.
